Techie filk
Jan. 31st, 2007 | 11:34 am
mood:
amused
music: song37 -
For some bizar reason we ended up discussing techie filk at work today. One of my coworkers gave me this wonderfull song:
Eleanor Rigby (with apologies to the Beatles)
Eleanor Rigby
Sits at the keyboard and waits for a line on the screen
Lives in a dream
Waits for a signal
Writing some code that will make the machine do some more
Who is it for?
All these lonely users, where do they all come from
All these lonely users, where do they all belong
Hacker Mackenzy
Writing the code for a program that no one will run
Its nearly done.
Look at him working.
Fixing the bugs late at night when there's nobody there
nobody cares.
All these lonely users, where do they all come from
All these lonely users, where do they all belong
Ahhhh.... look at all those lonely users...
Ahhhh.... look at all those lonely users...

evil fora
Sep. 27th, 2006 | 03:11 pm
message boards are evil, mail is soo much more fun.
phpbb has some forum2mail mods, but these need to be installed, when dealing with and unwilling/unable/... admin an external tool is more usefull. This script will look for new posts on a phpbb installation and mail in to subscribers:

overheating computers
Sep. 22nd, 2006 | 10:54 am
yay, instead of me sitting next to the computer watching it to keep it from overheating when creating panoramas, I have now automated the process :)

I finally started putting the holliday pictures online. Since we took a special vacation this year I'm turning them into a website with more info then just 'picture of monument X' picture of Y in front of monument Y.
only the first 2 days, and the map are available, but so far it includes a wonderfull pic of the Zonienwoud in Brussels :)
enjoy

open source bloggin
Aug. 26th, 2006 | 06:16 pm
I'm looking for an open source bloggin package to use on my own site. Main requirement, needs to be completely layoutable with css as it needs to fit in with the rest of the site. Working nicely with mediawiki or Gallery would be good to.

Nice view over a river in Boston, last in a 'recursive wikippl take pictures of the river series (http://flickr.com/photos/70418651@N00/2 18746564/?#comment72157594242389643 for the series). But this one is esp funky since one of the buildings seems to dissapear into the air surrounding it when you make the photo smaller. If you see the picture at full size it's clearly visible tho.

Brussels-Boston
Jul. 30th, 2006 | 10:23 am
location: Boston, youth hostel at Fenway
Actually managed to sleep, even with the horrible sunburn on my back. Got up at an early 5:30 Belgian time.
Thought 3 hours would have been plenty to get through checkin, past security, and on to the gate. Unfortunately flying out to the US from Brussels seems to trigger the WHOLE security check process, security questions during checkin, security questions at the checkin desk, handsearch of why handluggage, including turning on all electronics so they could make sure they're really electronics.
I now know why the New York skyline is such a huge thing to see :)
I had about 1h20 to change in Newark, unfortunately I had to go trough border patrol& through customs. Luckily there was a nice ground services girl looking for the people who had a connecting flight in less then an hour. So, she sent me straight to the recheckin area for my bag. So all that was left was for me to get to the correct terminal in that time. And then the security check machines broke down in that terminal. Got to the boarding gate 10 minutes late, but luckily boarding hadn't started yet :)
nice 39 minute flight to Boston, the area between Boston&New York looks quite interesting, seems like several rivers running their natural course, nicely meandering with grassy areas along their banks, might be flood or winterbedding I think, as well as big forests. Without a car it won't be that easy to check out some of those areas tho, which is a shame.
got to Boston, after some complications with finding the right shuttle to the T (subway) and blinking at the heavily armed police officer standing next to it :). Managed to find Mark at the hostel, showered and then went looking for other wikippl. and something to eat.
